Eight-part video series to beat NL200 6max.

Here is the first video series produced by DailyVariance, focusing on ever-popular small stakes NLHE 6max.
The author is James “irunlucky” Hudson, a young semi-professional Canadian player grinding the NL100 and NL200 6max tables. In 2010, he turned a solid $136,000 profit for 680,000 hands. James also offers coaching, and this series is based on his own experience, both fixing the leaks of his students and exploiting those of his opponents.
I was a member of the four main poker training sites (see links on the right) until recently, and I have watched a few fairly good poker vids in the last three-four years, so it was interesting to see how this series would fare.
This series is comprised of eight videos, each about 45-minute long. Several file formats are available (eg. WMV and MP4), including mp3 for listening as a podcast when suitable. There was no DRM on my copies.

Fine-tune your PLO skills.

Capitalizing on the successful approach of The NLHE Workbook, DailyVariance is now bringing out a new workbook dedicated to Pot-Limit Omaha.
The book is authored by Tri “SlowHabit” Nguyen, with the help and feedback of Rollover2K (whom you may know if you subscribed to CardRunners), DJ Sensei (from DeucesCracked) and DonkPredator. All of them are quite experienced PLO players.
Last but not least, Ashton “theAshman103″ Griffin wrote the foreword. In case you don’t know Mr. Griffin, he is a young poker prodigy who turned a $200 bankroll into more than $1,000,000, and when he lost a good part of it playing against the best players in the world, he “simply” won it back booking a $600,000 month (!), in addition to a 1st place in a heads-up event, for an extra $550,000.
The Advanced PLO Play – The Workbook (shortened to The PLO Workbook from now on) is a 182-page, paperback book, divided into eight chapters. Most of them are quite short, and the main parts are Chapter Four (40 Hand History Reflections) and Chapter Six (Quiz Solutions).

Away Back

Back to some poker after a few months of abstinence! I played a bit of PLO in September, felt pretty rusty. I tweeted a bit about some videos I watched, but unfortunately two days after all my training site subscriptions expired and I am not sure yet whether I will renew some. Tom Chambers’ PLO series on CardRunners was quite interesting, though.
On the book side, Dan Deppen issued a new edition of PLO8 Revealed; I have not had time to read it yet, but the first edition was good — you can find extra information about it and the Expanded Edition on Dan’s website.
Advanced Pot-limit Omaha: Lag Play Vol. II and Vol. III: The Short-Handed Workbook by Jeff Hwang are due mid-October. I was not a big fan of Vol. I (I gave some reasons in the 2+2 book’ thread, which kind of started an argument), but I will probably buy them anyway (more info on Jeff’s website).
Two Plus Two will also be releasing a new book, Analytical No-Limit Hold’em; Crushing Mid-Stakes Short-Handed Games by Thomas Bakker. You can find a preview of the table of content on TwoPlusTwo Magazine. Should be interesting.
Eventually, another expensive ebook is coming out: The Blue Book: An Advanced Strategy Guide for No-Limit Hold’em Cash Games by Reid Young, with a $2500 price tag. The author is a coach on LeggoPoker and he does really well at the tables, but I have no other details for now.
Stay tuned!
